Dr David Belavy

Dr Belavy completed medical school at the University of Queensland in 1999 and began working anaesthesia in 2004. During training, he gained experience in all areas of anaesthesia but had additional focused training in obstetric and paediatric anaesthesia. After completing anaesthesia training in 2009, he’s worked at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and in private practice.

In 2011, Dr Belavy took a one-year sabbatical to work at Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, UK to gain additional experience in anaesthesia for heart and lung surgery.

His special interest include using local anaesthetic techniques to improve pain relief and the use of ultrasound to improve the quality and safety of anaesthesia procedures. Dr Belavy’s research interests concentrate on the use of information technology in the perioperative period to improve outcomes and he is a senior lecturer with the University of Queensland.
