Dr Joel Thomas

Dr Joel Thomas completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Queensland, and his anaesthetic specialist training in South East Queensland.

He currently works in both private and public practice, including a staff specialist position at Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital where he regularly provides anaesthesia for major vascular, orthopaedic, neurosurgical, head and neck, obstetrics, gynaecological and general surgical procedures.

Dr Thomas is a senior lecturer with the University of Queensland, is certified by the University of Melbourne in the provision of focussed cardiac ultrasonography (TTE), and is an EMAC instructor through the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. He has a passion for improving patient care through the training of clinicians in point of care ultrasound, and his research in this area has been presented and published at a national level. Dr Thomas takes pride in helping his patients feel at ease prior to their surgery, and fosters a high-quality and pleasant working environment within the peri-operative team.

In his spare time Dr Thomas enjoys cycling, snowboarding, playing the guitar and exploring the great outdoors with his family and his dog.
